Ahlgrens bilar
Sweden's most bought car!
In 1953, a failed marshmallow experiment at the factory in Gävle resulted in the unplanned production of car shaped foam-candy. Even though the result didn’t turn out as planned, the small foam-cars tasted fantastic and Ahlgrens bilar, Sweden’s most bought “car,” was born! The cars got their iconic name in 1970 and for more than 70 years, this iconic candy car has been cruising through Swedish culture. Today, production takes place in Ljungsbro, just outside Linköping, where several million candy cars roll off the line every single day.
Over time, the lineup has grown with new flavors and fun variations. There’s something for everyone, and the best way to find your favorite is simply to taste your way through the collection. While different editions come and go, the original Ahlgrens bilar recipe has never changed - when you’ve created Sweden’s most beloved candy car, you don’t mess with it.
Even if they don’t hold their value on the “used car market,” new generations continue to fall in love with these sweet little classics. Their timeless design has made them a go‑to treat for family gatherings, birthday parties, road trips, or a pick‑and‑mix candy bag.
And one mystery keeps fans talking: do the original pink, green, and white cars all taste the same, or are they different? It’s a secret no one has officially confirmed - so you’ll just have to try them and decide for yourself.
