Waste Mamagement and Recycling

Cloetta is committed to minimizing the amount of waste generated across our entire value chain—from the cultivation and extraction of raw materials to transportation, manufacturing processes, and ultimately at the customer and consumer level. Within Cloetta’s own production facilities, the largest waste categories are organic waste and residual waste. Several programs are in place at our factories to improve efficiency and reduce waste generation.

We maintain established procedures for waste management, including the collection and sorting of waste and hazardous materials, as well as the substitution of hazardous chemicals with less harmful alternatives. All waste is recorded, and waste‑related data is included in our monthly environmental reporting. Every employee and contractor is responsible for correctly sorting and disposing of waste at our sites. Employees receive training in proper waste‑handling procedures as part of our overarching environmental management system.

Packaging

Increasing the use of circular packaging materials is a key component of our sustainability agenda, with a target of achieving 100 percent recyclable packaging by 2025. Plastic‑free and reduced‑material packaging, along with renewable material sources, are additional focus areas within our packaging vision, “Less and Better Packaging.”

One of our ongoing initiatives supporting these goals is our PlantPack innovation. In 2022, approximately three percent more of our packaging materials were sourced from PlantPack—an innovation that replaces up to 50 percent of traditional packaging with plant‑based plastics. This shift reduces our climate impact and supports the transition toward more renewable materials for the packaging solutions of the future.
